In the previous article, I wrote about the patterns within ourselves that can be difficult to see when we focus only on the problems happening on the surface. Those patterns can sit behind the same struggles appearing again and again.
So what begins to change once you notice them?
I don’t think we need to turn our personalities into something completely different. In the first place, personality does not change that easily. Our underlying temperament is deeply rooted, and trying to pull it out by the roots and replace it with something else is difficult. What matters more is understanding where certain traits become strengths and where they are more likely to become a burden. Our basic temperament may remain much the same, but our choices, habits, and ways of thinking can change, and those changes can alter the way we live.
When I look at a birth chart, I sometimes find a very different possibility sitting right beside something the person has always considered a flaw. That possibility can become one of the keys to what comes next.
There Are Parts of You That Haven’t Shown Themselves Yet
You probably feel that you know your personality fairly well. Maybe you are cautious, tend to accommodate other people, think too much, or need plenty of time alone. As we get older, we naturally develop a sense of “this is the kind of person I am.” But everyone has parts of themselves they cannot fully see or recognize. No matter how long we live, there are still moments when we discover something new about ourselves.
A birth chart can bring out not only the personality traits you already recognize, but also qualities you may never have consciously noticed. Someone who tends to accept every request from other people, for example, may also have a surprisingly strong capacity to initiate something on their own. Someone who takes a long time to make decisions may turn out to have remarkable persistence once they are genuinely convinced of something.
Maybe those parts never appeared because they were never needed. Maybe the role expected of you by the people around you was completely different. Or maybe you assumed something wasn’t for you and never considered it an option in the first place. When that happens, those qualities may never have become part of what you think of as “me.”
That is one of the things I find so interesting about a birth chart. It can confirm what you already know about yourself, but it can also uncover parts of you that you have not fully recognized yet.
The Same Personality Can Look Very Different in a Different Environment
The meaning of a trait can change dramatically depending on the environment around it. If you are highly sensitive to other people’s emotions, being somewhere that constantly requires you to monitor and respond to many people may leave you exhausted. In another kind of work, however, that same sensitivity may be valued because you notice subtle changes in people that others miss.
Caution works the same way. In an environment where every decision is expected to be made immediately, you may feel as though you are always falling behind. Put that same person in a situation where stopping to check the details matters, and caution can become a major strength.
Sometimes we think we need to change ourselves when the larger issue is actually the fit between who we are and where we are. I think this matters a great deal. Instead of continuing to blame your personality, you can ask where that particular trait might emerge more naturally. That question alone can bring work, relationships, and ways of living into view that you may never have considered before.
To me, this also describes the relationship between a natal chart and techniques that show what happens as circumstances change later in life, including triple-wheel charts and relocation astrology. A natal chart remains the same, while the environment around the person does not. Triple-wheel charts layer the natal chart with progressions and transits, while relocation astrology looks at the chart in relation to a different location.
The natal chart is the cosmic blueprint of the moment you were born, a kind of soul blueprint or basic approach that remains with you throughout life. But the way those qualities are expressed can change considerably depending on where you are and what surrounds you.
A tomato seed remains a tomato seed wherever you plant it. That is the part that does not change. But plant it in a desert, in rich soil, or inside a greenhouse, and the way it grows, the amount of fruit it produces, and even how it appears to the people around it can be completely different. When a new environment brings out a side of you that had been hidden, or turns something you once considered a weakness into one of your greatest strengths, you could say that the chart and the environment are creating their own kind of chemical reaction.
It’s Less About Changing Fate and More About Having More Choices
A birth chart is not an absolute script of a fate that cannot be changed. I see it more as a blueprint of possibilities, or a toolbox you were born with. As you understand the planetary patterns more clearly and begin to recognize where those qualities can find expression, the number of choices available to you can grow. So rather than “changing fate,” I think of it as increasing what you are able to choose from.
A way of working that you had always dismissed as unsuitable may turn out to fit your personality surprisingly well. Someone who has struggled with the same pattern in relationships for years may start noticing, a little earlier than before, “I’m having that same reaction again.”
The same applies to future astrological timing. A period may show greater potential around work, but that alone does not guarantee a career change or success. As that period approaches, however, you may decide to look beyond your usual options. If relationships are entering a period of change, you may accept an invitation you would normally turn down.
And if the period ahead looks more demanding, you may decide that this is not the time to keep pushing yourself beyond your limits. We cannot completely determine the future, but the choices we will make when we reach that future have not all been decided yet.
Accepting the Personality You Already Have
When life is not going well, it is very easy to make our own personality the reason. If only I were more assertive. If only I were better with people. If only I had more patience. If only I could make decisions without hesitating. We can spend years trying to correct one part of ourselves because we believe life would work better if that part were different.
But personality rarely changes completely unless something very significant happens. Accepting your personality means no longer denying your basic temperament or the traits you consider flaws, and allowing yourself to recognize who you actually are. That acceptance can be an important step toward feeling a little less burdened by the idea that you should be someone else.
I don’t see a birth chart as a way to search for instructions on becoming your ideal self. I see it more as a guide for thinking about where the person you already are may be able to thrive naturally. Judging yourself does not help much here. The question is what happens when you accept what is already part of you and begin thinking about how you want to live from there.
Our inborn temperament can be difficult to change, but everyday patterns of thought and behavior can gradually shift. A birth chart can help loosen the feeling that something about you “has to be fixed” and replace it with a more accurate recognition: this is a tendency I have. For me, that recognition is where acceptance begins.
Not Everything About the Future Has Been Decided Yet
The possibilities ahead are endless. When I look at the future in a reading, I am not looking at one predetermined road. There may be a period when work becomes a major theme, when relationships take up more of your attention, when something you have continued for a long time begins to feel uncomfortable, or when your interest starts turning toward a new direction. Astrology can sometimes show those larger currents.
But who you meet during that period, what you choose, and how far you decide to go are still yours. People can experience similar astrological timing and still live completely different lives. The more you understand about yourself, the more the choices visible to you at those moments can change as well.
Birth charts, tarot, and numerology all look at different things, but Sandy Tide Readings is not interested in reducing the future to a single outcome. I am interested in noticing the parts of yourself that have not fully surfaced yet, seeing familiar patterns from a different angle, and becoming able to consider directions you may never have chosen before.
That is where I see one of the greatest possibilities of a personalized reading.
